OPPO A93 Review: Sleek design with dual punch hole display and 6 AI camera

Date:

OPPO A93 comes with a premium finish that exhibits stronger light refractions and richer colors, but is also easy on the eyes and soft to the touch.  OPPO A93 is the successor to the recently launched OPPO A92. Just looking at the box and specifications made me realize I was about to review one of the best budget phones ever designed by OPPO. It is the lightest mobile phone I ever came across with a smooth rounded edge that feels comfortable to hold.

There is an in-display fingerprint scanner that works fast and helps you to unlock the device immediately. The OPPO A93 is available in two colour options and I got the magic blue variant to play around with.

OPPO A93 is designed with a 7.48mm ultra-thin body and weighs 164g
Rear view of the OPPO A93

The OPPO A93 is designed with a 7.48mm ultra-thin body and weighs 164g which makes it more portable than the OPPO A92 which weighs 192g. By the left side of the A93 is the volume key which is very easy to press and control. The microphone jack, speaker, USB port were designed in a clean way under the device. In addition, the OPPO Screenshots and screen recording are disabled while using the face or fingerprint scanner feature for security reasons. The display is really bright and there is no challenge using the device in harsh lighting conditions as it comes with eye comfort to avoid straining or damage to the eye. I was able to stream movies on Netflix and YouTube to test the overall media streaming experience while focusing on it for a long time.

Camera

OPPO A93 features a quad camera setup at the back which consists of a 48 MP main camera, 8 MP wide angle camera, 2 MP mono camera and 2 MP mono Camera while the front camera features a 16 MP main camera and 2 MP depth Camera which takes care of your selfies and online video calls. Interestingly, the AI optimizes your photos and scales it up to 108MP which I think is an exceptional feature on the A93. The camera app comes with a lot of features that include an AI portrait color, AI super night portrait, AI night flare portrait, AI super clear portrait, AI beautification 2.0, dual lens bokeh and much more. All these features make the camera performance super impressive. The camera works perfectly during daylight conditions and at night mode. For the main camera, video recording solution is 2160 x 30 fps which makes it possible to record a higher resolution up to 4k UHD. It also comes with a LED flash, HDR and panorama.

Hardware, performance and gaming

OPPO A93 is powered by a mediaTek Helio P95 AI processing unit with an Octa-core CPU frequency as high as 2.2Ghz which is faster compared to the   Qualcomm snapdragon 665 processor of its predecessor, the OPPO A92. It also comes with 2 ARM Cortex-A75 Prime Cores operating at up to 2.2GHz and 6 ARM Cortex-A55 at 2.0GHZ. It is further coupled with 8GB RAM for fast data processing and in-built storage space for the device is 128 GB which is expandable to 512 GB. This chipset is good enough to perform daily tasks.

We got the 8GB RAM Variant to play around with for three days and the everyday performance was quite amazing. Up to 10 different apps were opened and multi-tasking was done easily without freezing or delay.

Playing dream league soccer with the OPPO A93 at night

Five games were downloaded to test the gaming performance with an average storage size of 500MB. If you need a smartphone that can perform well even while gaming then OPPO A93 is right for you. We played games like Dream soccer league, Car X Highway racing, need for speed-no limits, NBA live, mario kart and Vikings. The overall Gaming experience was outstanding and worked smoothly without any lags.

Connectivity

The OPPO A93 supports 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. You also get a USB Type-C port for charging and transferring files to your laptop. The 9mobile 4G LTE had a unique signal strength without any challenge while calling, browsing and downloading apps.

OPPO A93 Battery life

OPPO A93 is powered by a 4000 mAH rechargeable battery that supports 18W Fast Charge. The device was charged only once from 8% to 98% for the past four days after using it to play music, games, movies, surf the web and make calls.

The charging speed is really impressive as it took about 1 hr 35 minutes to charge from 8% to 98% almost at full charge. Using the device for your daily task can take you all through with a single charge. The game space feature helps you monitor the battery life and users can get up to 6 hours continuous playtime.

Smooth user experience with ColorOS 7.2

OPPO A93 runs on the latest version of ColorOS from OPPO – ColorOS 7.2 which is based on the most recent Android 10 and offers different customization options for its users. The device comes with Android Security Patch level dated 5th October, 2020. There was no problem with the ColorOS 7.2 UI and the overall user experience was smooth.

It features a theme Store which allows users to download new themes, fonts and wallpapers if they want to change the look and feel on their device. Dark Mode is present on the device with the option of adjusting the screen color temperature from cooler to warmer.

Users can also make use of the always-On display to check the clock, battery capacity, and much more without picking up the device. The OPPO A93 handles day to day tasks easily with no issues while multitasking on the device. However, the device comes with some pre-installed apps. These pre-installed apps include apps from OPPO (Soloop, OPPO Lab, OPPO relax), Microsoft and Google.

Super power saving mode

The OPPO A93 features a super power saving mode that kicks in a critical battery saving mode called Late Night Emergency Power. This feature turns the display black and white and runs six selected apps to ensure that even with 5% of battery life remaining, OPPO A93 still functions for a long time.

OPPO A93 Air Gesture Feature

Air Gestures allows users to use gestures to answer calls and take selfies. The OPPO A93 recognizes gestures between 20 cm to 50 cm from the front cameras. Always working on my laptop with my hands busy made me realize how OPPO A93 can make life very easy for me.

Privacy control

While I was setting the phone up for use, I had to manually synchronize my contacts unlike other android devices. OPPO A93 software allows users control over what they want and don’t want during and after setting the device up. All third-party apps need permission which shows a prompt on the screen to allow or deny before they can access some features on the device.

Other features available on the ColorSs 7.2 for better user experience include the OPPO share, OSIE visual effect, ultra-battery saving mode and app Cloner.

Verdict

The OPPO A93 Super AMOLED Dual Punch-hole screen on the phone with the price point is gargantuan. The OPPO A93 is a beautiful, light and premium smartphone. The overall design is unique which makes it stand out from other devices in the market. The display is bright which makes the viewing experience amazing. The OPPO A93 which is a mid-range phone comes with a lot of flagship features and functionalities. The OPPO A93 gets a rating of 9 out of 10.
