19-year-old Nigerian student emerges winner at LG OLED Gaming Challenge

LG OLED Gaming Challenge now in its third edition is one of the largest e-sports competitions in Nigeria for game lovers. The gaming industry as of 2020 was worth 90 billion dollars and LG Electronics is the first consumer’s electronics brand to independently launch the maiden edition of LG OLED Gaming Challenge in 2018 to help improve the gaming culture in Nigeria.

The event held on November 13th at the Grand Ball room, Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria island, Lagos. It involved eight contestants from different parts of Nigeria come together to battle for the grand prize of 1.5 million naira, a 65’’ OLED TV from LG and the trophy cup. The second edition saw the contestants participate in the Gaming Challenge to win the LED65c9 TV and a cash prize of one million naira. 

The LG OLED TV Gaming challenge preliminaries were held in Lagos, Abuja, Ibadan, Owerri, Delta and Port Harcourt. The journey to the finals started from Ikeja City mall, Lagos where Omeiza emerged the overall winner. Other winners include; Riomade from Portharcourt, Faruk Manzo from Abuja, Honest from Delta, Arnold from Festac, Ovie from Owerri, Arogs from Maryland and kor Sesugh from Ibadan.

Speaking at the event which took place at Eko Hotel & Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, Mr. Olugbenga, Head of Corporate Marketing, LG Electronics West Africa said ”We have got so many awards because of the LG OLED TV eye comfort feature, and we will keep giving our consumers the best as an innovative brand.”

LG thrilled the guests with the best gaming experience using the LG OLED TV. Each gamer showed their performance while experiencing the top-notch features of LG OLED TV and battling it hard for the star prize.

Commenting after being declared the overall winner and speaking to journalist, Faruk Manzo, the first place winner and a Nigerian student studying Economics appreciated the management of LG Electronics for sponsoring the competition and talked about how amazing the OLED TV features are. He further said “It was quite tough and indeed an interesting battlefield, but I am so excited to emerge as the winner. I hope this platform that LG has created for gamers continue to grow stronger and birth more opportunities for others in the E-Sport industry.”

The second place winner took home a cash prize of 500,000 naira while the third place got 300,000 naira.

Farouk Manzo, the 19 years old gamer from Abuja earlier in 2021 emerged as the winner of the Hangout Game Hub, HGH FIFA Tourney February Edition. His brothers, Sadiq and Tukur Manzo took the second and third postiton respectively. Sadiq who was at the LG OLED gaming final was very excited his brother was crowned the overall winner after so many gaming battle.

The company invited celebrities and ambassadors to the gaming competition including RMD, Praiz, Efe warri boy, VJ Adams, Chuma Nnoli, KieKie, M.I, Dr SID, amongst others. They were each sent an invitation box that contained the tickets, T-shirt, perfume and so on, so that they all could have the best gaming experience with fans and customers. There was an impressive music performance by M.I which within few minutes switched to a live concert before the gaming competition resumed. Efe warri boy had the fans jumping and laughing while he performed during his comedy section, not to mention the sumptuous cuisine that the celebrities and guests were entertained with.

Richard Mofe–Damijo also known as RMD, and a brand ambassador of the LG OLED TV brand, said LG promotes the spirit of sportsmanship with its OLED TV. “Playing video games is a great source of learning as it can enhance memory, improve brain’s speed. It helps players meet new friends while also strengthening bonds with their old friends”.

According to LG, the OLED TV gaming competition is free and adviced participants to visit the company official social media platforms on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more information on the next edition of the contest. LG gave out exciting prizes during the raffle draw, take a selfie and win competition and LG Independence day regional contest which saw six attendees go home with new LG television sets. The first raffle draw winner was picked and Temide one of the guest at the event won an LG TV while the grand prize raffle draw winner went home with the LG OLED TV. Let’s not forget every guest at the event were presented with a goodie bag from LG.

The fourth edition comes with a twist as the winner of the third edition – Faruk Manzo will have to defend his title in 2022. This promises to be entertaining, and we advise all gamers to keep it locked down on LG social media pages for updates.
