The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) celebrated its 37th anniversary on Tuesday by launching a small driving license print farm in Lagos.
FRSC License print farm to produce 9,000 cards in 6 hours
FRSC Assistant Corps Marshal Godwin Omiko of Abuja’s Motor Vehicle Administration Unit attended the inauguration of the Lagos Mini Print Farm on behalf of Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed.
According to the Corps Marshal, the print farm could produce up to 1,800 copies per hour and 9,000 copies in six hours. The purpose of this plant is to ensure that individuals who apply for a license, following due diligence, receive their license in a timely manner, he added. This idea was developed by the FRSC to expedite the driving license application process and guarantee that backlogs are eliminated.
The head of the FRSC urged applicants to pick up their licenses on time, stating that there was a 270,000-person backlog in states. However, he noted that the new license print farm would handle the printing of those applicants who lived in Lagos State. We expect that all applicants from the South-West will be served by this center. FRSC has not completed its work as long as applicants do not possess the card, he added. Mr. Mohammed promised that FRSC would keep up its best efforts in providing services and thanked the Lagos State Government for their partnership.
Abdul Rasheed Muri-Okunola, permanent secretary of the Lagos State Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, expressed gratitude to FRSC for the initiative. He hoped it would help with the difficulties in issuing driver’s licenses. “We hope that waiting for Abuja to send the Lagos driving license will be a thing of the past with the coming up of the Lagos license print farm,” he said.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed’s impressive performance
It was reported in June 2024 through a press release on the FRSC website that the National Drivers License Print Farm produced 73,740 licenses in two weeks because of the strategic intervention mechanisms put in place by Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, to clear the backlogs of the National Drivers License (NDL).
The post said that one of the most significant steps the Corps Marshal took upon taking office to restructure the entire Corps’ operations was to visit the FRSC print farm and other key infrastructures to perform an on-site evaluation of the facilities with the aim of boosting their production capacity.
