Innoson Vehicles Mancufactuing (IVM) the first indigenous vehicle manufacturing company in Nigeria is set to launch its ride-hailing services in the city of Enugu, Eastern Nigeria in the first week of October according to Techpoint.
The ride-hailing service by innoson is called ‘IVM connect’. It also represent one of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing customer social responsibility (CSR) effort to provide job opportunities for residents in Enugu state.
IVM Connect is a Nigerian founded ride-hailing services with its root from eastern part of Nigeria plans to compete with popular ride-hailing platforms like Uber and Taxify.
IVM’s head of Corporate Communications, Cornel Osigwe while speaking to Techpoint Africa said that this was necessary at this period to address the challenge of inadequate transport services in the state.
Innoson will launch IVM connect with 200 branded hatchback cars in the first week of October. Within one year of lunch, the company will roll out 5000 vehicles to cover owerri and other parts of Eastern Nigeria.
IVM connect and FRSC partnership
For the purpose of recruiting, training, and issuing necessary licenses to qualified drivers, IVM connect is partnering with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). This is to enable all drivers coming on board to meet the requirements expected.
Mr osigwe explained that to avoid the kind of challenges faced by ride-hailing services in Lagos state, innoson vehicles would carry the Enugu state government along.
“We are in talks with necessary agencies of government concerning the situation of the project. But for now, we cannot give out the details of the discussions,” Osigwe said.
IVM connect partners with Job recruitment company ( FRESHMINDS) to employ drivers
IVM outsourced drivers’ registration and selection processes to a job recruitment company, Freshminds to ensure proper driver onboarding.
The company has created a job portal on the website for this purpose and already developing a mobile app named ‘IVMCruise’

According to a tweet by Innoson vehicles, minimum accepted academic qualification is OND but the drivers to operate the vehicles must be tech-savvy, own a smartphone, be a resident of Enugu, and be ready to pay back for the vehicle within two years via a hire purchase agreement.

Mr Osigwe also confirms that payment for the hire purchase system would be electronic and cash based trips will be discouraged to ensure proper payment tracking. The drivers become owners of the vehicles after payment is complete.
