Data Science Nigeria (DSN) officially unveiled the first Artificial Intelligence (AI) Hub in Yaba, Lagos on Wednesday 7th July, 2021.

The AI Hub is the first-of-its-kind effort to create a dedicated Artificial Intelligence-specific workspace and research centre for young Nigerians with AI-centric ideas to develop, incubate and scale up their innovation at no cost, while enjoying unlimited access to advanced AI working tools, the internet, daily academic classes, expert mentors, access to funds and industry partnership.

The center will focus on cutting-edge applications of Artificial Intelligence and Digital technologies in EdTech, FinTech, AgriTech and MedTech. The hub is supported with pre-owned research robots, donated by the University College, London, United Kingdom.

It also has a 100-seat class for free daily AI classes, a well-equipped library of recent AI books, and a dedicated multiple workspaces for up to 50 professionals, researchers and entrepreneurs. The new hub has a dedicated workstation for AI start-ups for free technical support, go-to-market readiness, and initial seed capital.

During the launch event, founder of DSN, Bayo Adekanmbi said “The hub will be open to students on Tuesdays and Thursdays while entrepreneurs and professionals will be able to use the workspaces from the mornings.”

He further said, “Besides learning, the entrepreneurs who will use the hub will have access to AI experts who will work with them to develop their ideas and turn them into marketable products. Startups that are launched from the hubs will also have access to funding and guidance from investors at a pitch-a-thon event which will be organised regularly,”

However, for it to become sustainable, DSN announced that it is pivoting from being a non-profit to become a social company. With this model, it will develop tech-based solutions for governments and companies and get paid in return.

Bayo explained that this will enable DSN to be able to do more of what it set out to accomplish.

Also Speaking at the unveiling of the Data science Nigeria Artificial Intelligence hub in Yaba, Ms. Funke Opeke, founder and CEO of MainOne said, “Great and innovative solutions will be created from the hub and lives will be transformed”
